Baby Hat - Free Knitting Pattern, Video

A delightful do-it-yourself project for knitters: how to knit a cute ribbed beanie for babies that are 3 to 6 months old.

MEASUREMENTS Circumference 15" (38 cm), height 7.5" (19 cm) Good for babies 3-6 months old YARN Soft wool/acrylic, medium weight, about 1 once (30 g) Gauge ~4 sts/5 rows = 1" (2.5 cm)
NEEDLES Size 7 US (4.5 mm)

Multiple: 4



BABY BEANIE KNITTING PATTERN

Cast on 62 stitches (15*4+2 selvage stitches).

Set up row: knit 1, purl 2, *knit 2, purl 2; repeat from *, end knit 1.

Row 1 (right side): purl 1, knit 2, move 2 sts back to left, loop (around and between moved sts), knit 2 tog, * purl 2, knit 2, move 2 sts back to left, loop, knit 2 tog; repeat from *, end purl 1.

Row 2 (wrong side): knit 1, purl 2, *knit 2, purl 2; repeat from *, end knit 1.

Rows 3-25 (about 5.25" up or 3/4 of hat height): 
Repeat rows 1 & 2: row 1 for each right side row, row 2 for each wrong side row.

Row 26: knit 1, *purl 2, knit 2 together; repeat from *, end knit 1.

Row 27: purl 1, * knit 2, move 2 sts back to left, loop, knit 2 tog, purl 1; repeat from * to end. 

Row 28: knit 1, * purl 2, knit 1; repeat from * to end.

Row 29: purl 1, * knit 2 together, purl 1; repeat from * to end.

Row 30: knit 1, * purl 1, knit 1; repeat from * to end.

Row 31: knit 3 together, * knit 2 together; repeat from * to end (make sure not to twist stitches).

Row 32: all purls.     

Rows 33-37: stockinette stitch (green yarn): knit right side rows and purl wrong side rows.

Cut off the green yarn end (leave about 8" long) and draw it through the top row stitches.

Tighten it up and make a knot.

Join the side edges (with yarn of respective color)**.

Make a little braid at the top.

The hat is done!

**Seam sides may come out a bit short: this can be fixed adding a few extra stitches at the bottom with a crochet hook

The purse has 2 halves knitted separately Each half width: 7" (8-8.5" if stretched) Each half height: 5" Yarn: medium weight acrylic (approx 1 ounce) Needles: US size 6 or 7 (4 or 4.5 mm) Gauge: 4 sts/5 rows = 1"

How to Knit a Bobble Ribbed Hat - Free Knitting Pattern with Video

DESCRIPTION

Size M/L
Width 20" (51 cm)
Will fit heads 19-23" (49-58cm)
Height 9" (23 cm)
Worsted wool about 2.5 onces (70 g)
Needles US size 6-7 (4-5 mm)
Gauge: ~4 sts/5 rows = 1" (2.5 cm)

This hat includes 4 parts knitted one after the other:
1) brim part, 
2) bottom part, 
3) middle part, and 
4) top (decrease) part 


Multiple: 2 (+1)

THE WAY I MAKE IT

Cast on 85 stitches

1) BRIM PART
The brim has 16 rows (~ 3" / 7.5cm)

Row 1 (right side) and next 7 right side rows: 
purl 1, *loop 1 around next stitch, knit 1, purl 1, repeat from* to end

Row 2 (wrong side) and next 7 wrong side rows: 
knit 1, *purl 1 (loop & stitch together), knit 1; repeat from * to end



2) BOTTOM PART (~ 3" / 7.5cm)

Basic 1x1 rib stitch (purls & knits) next 21 rows 

Switch the front side to the reverse 

3) MIDDLE PART (~ 4" /10 cm)

Every other right side row of the middle part (rows 38, 42, 46, 50, 54): 
*loop 1 around next stitch, knit 1, purl 1, repeat from * , 
end loop 1 around next stitch, knit 1

Next wrong side row: *purl 1 (loop & stitch together), knit 1, 
repeat from * , end purl 1 (loop & stitch together)

Basic 1x1 rib stitch otherwise (knits and purls)



Start decreasing the top after reaching up about 9.5-10" (24-25 cm) from the beginning row

4) TOP PART (~ 2" / 5 cm)

a) Right side row 1 of the top part: *knit 2 stitches together, 
repeat from* to end (make sure to avoid twisted stitches)
Next rows: stockinette stitch up another inch (2.5 cm)
(knits on right side rows, purls on wrong side rows)


b) Repeat the above a) section

c) Next right side row: *knit 2 stitches together, repeat from * to end
Finalize with purls on next wrong side row




Close up the top stitches and make a seam.

The hat is ready to go!

KNITTING PATTERN DESCRIPTION

Cast on 25 stitches

Rows 1-10Basic rib stitch 1x1
Row 1 (right side): Knit one, *purl one, knit one; repeat from * to end
Row 2 (wrong side): Purl one, *knit one, purl one; repeat from * to end
Rows 3-10: Repeat rows 1 and 2

Rows 11-18:
Basic garter stitch: all knit stitches
Try to make the garter stitch a little tighter than the rib

Repeat rows 1-18 another seven times

End rowsRepeat rows 1-10 (rib stitch)


Finalizing
Cut off the yarn ab.15" long from the last stitch and pull it through the last row stitches
Gather the stitches and make a knot at the end of the row
Gather the edge of the initial row
Connect the corners of both sides to each other
Cut, tie and hide the yarn ends
Attach a big button in the middle
